Mushroom Foraging and Identification WorkshopJanuary 17, 2016

The mushrooms are up and flourishing so we hold this workshop on Sunday, January 17th! Please contact Emily Purvis in the Biology Department, (530) 898-5356, if you are interested in attending.

This workshop will be useful for beginners as well as for people with some knowledge of mushrooms.  This workshop starts with an introduction to mushrooms, then collecting in the field and finally identifying the mushrooms that are found.  The instructor, Philip Carpenter, has extensive knowledge of mushrooms and has been a member of the Fungus Federation of Santa Cruz since it was organized in 1984. The workshop will meet 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Forest Ranch Community Center and the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve. PLEASE MEET AT THE EAST END OF THE PARK-AND-RIDE LOTS AT THE INTERSECTION OF HWY 99 AND HWY 32 AT 8:30 A.M. We will travel to the Forest Ranch Community Center first at 15807 Forest Ranch Road, Forest Ranch, California. After an introduction to mushrooms at the community center we will travel to the reserve. We will return to the community center to identify the mushrooms we foundat the reserve. The registration fee is $100.00.
