Learn about the origins of color, work with select rock and plant samples, and take a local walk to learn about different species that can create exquisite colors for calligraphy, printing and painting. Each participant will learn paint grinding techniques, and take home a sample card of local colors, along with an instructional pamphlet on how to reproduce the process.

When: 10:00 am-4:00 pm Saturday, Oct 26, 2019. Where: Holt Hall room 125 at CSU Chico. Registration: $60.00. Friends of the Herbarium members: $50.00. Verified students (only 2 student seats available): $40.00. Please register in advance! Class size is limited to 14 participants (class minimum is 8 participants). Melody Overstreet is an Iranian-American artist, poet, and educator. She has exhibited her work locally and internationally, with her most recent series landing at the Rui Cunha Foundation in collaboration with the Yun Yi Arts and Cultural Communications Association in Macau, China. She lives in Santa Cruz, California, where she teaches Book Arts at Kirby School, and offers nature-craft centered workshops through UCSC's Arboretum, Cabrillo College Extension, and The Santa Cruz Natural History Museum. Her educational approach emphasizes the importance of connection to our origins through place, community, and seeds.
